Though many people seek chiropractic care for their back or sports-related injuries, another common issue that people experience is shoulder pain.

Your doctor may prescribe medication for pain relief, and though this can help in soothing any immediate pain, it won’t help resolve the issue in the long run. So, should you see a chiropractor for shoulder pain?

Yes, chiropractors are experts not only in helping your back but your shoulders as well. Your shoulder is a very complex part of your body as it has a wide range of motion and is used frequently. Chiropractic treatment is more than addressing the pain in your shoulder. At ProActive Health, we focus on the musculoskeletal system to ensure that your joints, muscles, ligaments, and more are functioning correctly. By concentrating on your musculoskeletal system, we aim to make long-term fixes that get you back to living a more proactive lifestyle.

Now, it can be daunting to find the right chiropractor for your needs. That’s why you need a specialist with years of experience in treating patients who have suffered the same issues that you may be facing.

What Causes Shoulder Pain?

There are several reasons why you could be experiencing shoulder pain, ranging from a sports injury, desk job, poor posture, and more. It is likely caused by irritation on your ligaments, joints, and muscles. At ProActive Health, we see a wide range of patients who are experiencing:

  • Arthritis
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tendon inflammation
  • Bursitis
  • And more

How To Prevent

If you are at a point where you are tired of dealing with your shoulder pain, then the first step is to schedule an examination with ProActive Health. During this first session, we will assess the issue and go over a plan with you to eliminate the pain.

After our examination, we will begin adjusting your musculoskeletal system, and ensuring that we are addressing the shole you,  so the issue doesn’t arise again in the future. We will go over some exercises and stretches that you can perform for a few minutes each day to help strengthen your joints, ligaments, and muscles after our appointments.

There are several exercises that we will recommend to you to help loosen the tension in your joints and muscles. These activities can take less than 10 minutes to do each day, and we’d recommend that you even try doing them once in the morning and once at night.

  1. Neck stretches will help to loosen any built-up tension in your neck and shoulders. Start by slowly rolling your head in a clockwise motion for about 10-20 seconds and then switch to a counterclockwise movement. After you have finished the first portion of this stretch, slowly bend your head towards your chest and feel the stretch in your spine with your shoulders relaxed. To intensify this stretch, wrap your hands around the back of your head, but don’t pull.
  2. Chest expansion will help increase your range of motion. Grab a towel or short  pole on your back. Expand your arms above your head and push your shoulder blades together. Hold the position for up to 30 seconds and repeat up to 5 times.
  3. Chair twist stretch will help you release tension in your neck and shoulders. While sitting in a chair, keep your hips facing forward. Twist your upper body to the left side, and bring your right hand to your right thigh. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat it on the other side.
