Natural Ways To Deal With Arthritis

You or someone you know may suffer from a chronic condition called arthritis. Though there is no way to cure arthritis, there are natural remedies to slow down and ease the pain over time.

If you’re unfamiliar with arthritis, it’s when your joints experience inflammation and can occur due to an abnormal metabolism, injury, or genetic make up. The condition can cause pain, swelling, reduced  of  motion, and stiffness.

In our article today, we’ll discuss a few natural ways you can deal with arthritis.

1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids offer a natural remedy that your body needs. When ingested, your body goes to work by digesting the omega-3 into an anti-inflammatory. Omega-3 can be found in nuts, flax seeds, fatty fish and fish oil supplements.

Studies have shown that people who suffer from arthritis and regularly consume foods with omega-3 tend to experience less morning stiffness and joint pain.

2. Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is one of the most respected forms of manual medicine or alternative medicine as it is both non-invasive and effective in treating joint, muscle, and ligament pain.

At ProActive Health, we help address arthritis pain in several ways, but we’re excited to share that we are now offering SHOCKWAVE THERAPY  to our patients as a form of treatment. Being the only chiropractic care facility in the Michiana area to offer shockwave therapy, our patients have already had success in addressing their joint, muscle, and ligament pain.

Shockwave therapy works through a handheld medical-grade device that transmits  sound waves to target the affected joint. Results can be experienced almost immediately after a session by aiding in reducing swelling, stiffness, and pain.

3. Exercise

The CDC states that physical activity is a great way to not only improve the well-being of your overall health but also to address arthritis.

Most people who are diagnosed with arthritis tend to become less active as a way to avoid pain. However, this can have more of a negative effect on your body as your joints need to move to prevent stiffness.

Here are some exercises we recommend you adopt into your lifestyle:

  • Swimming
  • Walking
  • Biking

4. Hot or cold therapy

Another popular natural remedy for dealing with arthritis is hot or cold therapy. This form of treatment can aid in soothing aching muscles and loosening stiff joints. The heat from a hot towel or pack will expand your body’s blood vessels, thus increasing the amount of blood and oxygen that flows to your injured area.

As a precaution, avoid using heat therapy if you are experiencing an acute flair up . In this case, it is best to use cold therapy. Cold therapy, but no more than 20 minutes at one time/hour, cold therapy can help decrease inflammation in the affected area.
